The Lens of The Festival Series
The #ALLINEVERYWHERE network is a web of poker players and media creators we meet on the go. One of the cool poker photo dudes we came across over the past years, is Mairo a.k.a. EstonianWeirdo who is head of phtotography for The Festival Series soon to return to King’s Resort.

It’s an interestingly absurd exercise to try to put an eclectic creative person like you in a drawer in terms of style. Since you’re the Estonian Weirdo, let’s start with a weird question to help us understand your poker photo. If your photography had a soundtrack, what kind of music would it be?
Its hard to tell… It would be something crossing the limits or at least playing with them. Maybe even a music style I am not listening myself as I am more of a laid back music admirer. From the latest music out there, we can take a look at this years Eurovision and from there, I would say my style of photography fits most with either German or Estonian song and performance.
I’m not sure whether you know, but some people think there are rules in photography 🙂 What’s one photography ‘rule’ you secretly love breaking?
Is there one I don’t break? But the most basic one I feel like I break 90% of time is straight lines – It’s not too often that my pictures are straight. I put them on a slight angle maybe even too much, but if I feel it fits, then I do it.

What’s something you see in your photos that you feel most people seem to miss?
Details. I see myself more as a details photographer rather than lets say beauty one. I tend to see details and angles and photograph them.
Is there one specific photo you took that taught you something special?
Photography in general has shown me that you can actually find beauty in everything if you want to.
No photo I took taught me a distinct lesson. I see things I don’t like in all my photos. It helps me improve my point of view but there isn’t a certain one that I would name. In terms of TFS poker photo, there once was a photo that gave me my style for the Main Event winners’ photos. Smashing the chip towers or throwing them around. Yeah, the floors are not always too happy when they hear about my idea but they come along and I’m happy with the outcome.
If your camera could talk, what’s one secret it would tell us about you?
Not sure it would have many secrets to tell, but it would definitely ask for a rest. My current camera have done more clicks than most cameras do in their lifetime.
