I’m still in Bratislava for about another 10 days, until mid-March. It’s been a rough stretch at the tables lately – not gonna sugarcoat it. Results-wise, it’s not been going my way at all. When PLO5 variance turns against you, it quickly gets tricky. If you add some mediocre play on top of it, it becomes a blood bath. European rake structures do not help and I am starting to seriously question whether I should keep playing in Europe all in all. The games I have been playing lately come with a rake 5-6 times higher than what we pay in Vegas and we’re paying all drinks without any form of rakeback deal. It’s absurd. The European poker landscape is still appealing as a whole but I think I’ll rather focus on MTTs while traveling in Europe in the future and I’ll keep my cash game appetite for Vegas. Beyond the run and the ridiculous fees, I’m genuinely enjoying being here. Bratislava remains one of my favorite spots in Europe. It’s a small, walkable, well-connected capital with a friendly rhythm to it. A good place to hang out, even when the cards are not falling your way.

The Poker North Masters kicks off this week on the 5th and runs until the 15th. I’ll be around for it, and I haven’t decided yet what happens next. One possibility is taking a little break in the Austrian mountains and make my way to Linz, where the Casino Austria Poker Tour is making a stop soon. Sounds like a nice mix of fresh air and felt.

Looking further ahead, things are harder to plan than usual. The situation in the Middle East very quickly casted a long shadow, travel costs have shot up, especially for flights, and the first series of event cancellations have started to hit the web feeds like for the WPT Prime in Cyprus that has been postoned or the Resorts World Mixed Game Festival that was simply cancelled. That said, I still hope to head back to Vegas as soon as I can. There’s a bunch of cool Spring action over there, and I’m also cooking up some new things in collaboration with Michelle Richey and her real estate projects. Before that, I might squeeze in a quick hop to Portugal. Still weighing my options.

On a different note, I wanted to share a few thoughts about the current state of content creation in poker. Some of you might have noticed that I’ve been pretty quiet on that front since early 2025. After the crumbling of my business partnerships with PokerFirma and PokerExklusiv, I’ve mostly stopped taking contracts, apart from a few last evaporating occasional partnerships I maintained until late 2025 with the aim to rebuild partnerships from scratch starting in 2026.

The truth is, I’ve grown a little tired of the poker media space. Budgets are so low it’s often no better than an insult to the expert skills we’ve built, decent opportunities are rare and there’s this weird push happening where everyone seems to feel like they HAVE TO create content, even if they never did before. We’ve seen long-time crushers suddenly start vlogging or pumping out reels, and it’s not about ego. It’s just become part of the package if you want to stay visible or get deals.

The feedback loop serves no purpose in my humble opinion though. Despite what AI companies try to sell us, content creation is a real job. Being a photographer, a video editor, a writer, a journalist… these are full-time crafts that take years to learn and master. Combining the achievement of becoming a decent image producer with being serious about playing poker, makes it very challenging to do both well. So what ends up happening is that AI steps in. I’m not against AI. I think it has great potential and I’m using it too in order to make the maintaining of websites easier and it helps me automate and optimize processes. Nevertheless, it seems it’s often used as a way to cut production costs in a way that floods the space with quantity over quality. It creates the illusion that more content equals better presence, when most of it ends up feeling a bit meaningless.

I’ve chosen to step back from all of the competing for low pay and attention-whoring for fake fame. In the past, when we were aiming at easy solutions, we were going for low-hanging fruit. These days, it feels like content creators are all going for the same rotting. bits and pieces on the ground not even considering to climb up a branch to try to get a prime fruit. Quality standards are taking a hit as a consequence and I’d rather get hired for nothing than to produce crap contributions. I want to do things differently than the standard we are moving towards. I have not crafted a style and my way of expressing myself over two decades to just abandon it to a formatting LLM standard. I want to take it slow, focus on deeper, more valuable input, and spend time building real connections instead of irrelevant followers. That’s the spirit behind these recently relaunched weekly updates. No hype hopping – just a traveling dude checking in with the community.
